How to Upload an Image to ChatGPT

ChatGPT can analyze, describe, and answer questions about images you upload directly to the chat interface. This feature works with photos, screenshots, diagrams, charts, and most common image formats.

1. Open ChatGPT in your web browser. Navigate to chat.openai.com and sign in to your OpenAI account. Ensure you're using ChatGPT-4 or ChatGPT-4o, as image uploads require these models.
2. Click the attachment icon in the message box. Look for the paperclip icon on the left side of the text input field at the bottom of the chat window. Click this icon to open the file upload options.
3. Select your image file. Choose the image you want to upload from your device's file browser. ChatGPT supports JPEG, PNG, GIF, and WebP formats up to 20MB in size.
4. Wait for the image to upload and process. The image will appear as a thumbnail in your message box. ChatGPT automatically processes the image and prepares it for analysis.
5. Add your question or request about the image. Type your message asking ChatGPT to analyze, describe, or answer questions about the uploaded image. Be specific about what you want to know.
6. Send your message. Press Enter or click the send button to submit your image and question. ChatGPT will analyze the image and provide a detailed response based on what it can see.
