How to Upload a PDF to Gemini
Gemini can analyze, summarize, and answer questions about PDF documents you upload directly to the interface. This feature works with research papers, reports, manuals, and other text-based PDFs up to 25MB in size.
- Open Gemini in your web browser. Navigate to gemini.google.com and sign in with your Google account. The Gemini interface will load with a text input field at the bottom of the screen.
- Click the attachment icon. Look for the paperclip icon to the left of the text input field. Click this icon to open the file upload menu. You'll see options for uploading files from your computer.
- Select your PDF file. Click "Upload from computer" and browse to locate your PDF file. Select the PDF and click "Open." Gemini supports PDF files up to 25MB and will begin processing the file immediately.
- Wait for processing to complete. A progress indicator will show while Gemini processes your PDF. The file name will appear above the text input field once upload is complete. Processing typically takes 10-30 seconds depending on file size.
- Ask questions about your PDF. Type your question or request in the text input field. You can ask Gemini to summarize the document, find specific information, or explain concepts from the PDF. Press Enter to submit your query.
- Review Gemini's analysis. Gemini will analyze your PDF and provide responses based on the document's content. You can ask follow-up questions or request different types of analysis without re-uploading the file.
