How to Unpair a Bluetooth Device

Unpairing a Bluetooth device removes it from your device's memory and stops automatic connections. This resolves connection conflicts and frees up space for new pairings.

  1. Access Bluetooth settings on your device. On Windows 11, open Settings > Bluetooth & devices. On Mac, open System Settings > Bluetooth. On iPhone, go to Settings > Bluetooth. On Android, navigate to Settings > Connected devices or Bluetooth.
  2. Locate the device you want to unpair. Find the device in your paired or connected devices list. The device may show as 'Connected', 'Not connected', or 'Paired' depending on its current status.
  3. Access device options. Click the three dots (⋯) or gear icon next to the device name on Windows. On Mac, click the 'i' icon. On iPhone and Android, tap the 'i' or settings icon next to the device name.
  4. Select the unpair option. Click 'Remove device' on Windows, 'Forget This Device' on Mac and iPhone, or 'Unpair' or 'Forget' on Android. The exact wording varies by operating system version.
  5. Confirm the removal. Click 'Yes' or 'Remove' when prompted to confirm. The device disappears from your paired devices list immediately and will no longer connect automatically.
  6. Restart Bluetooth if needed. If the device still appears in your list, toggle Bluetooth off and on. On Windows, use the Bluetooth quick toggle in Action Center. On other devices, use the Bluetooth switch in settings.
