How to Extend iPhone Battery Life

iPhone battery life decreases throughout the day as apps drain power in the background and display settings consume energy. These system-level adjustments will significantly extend your daily battery performance without compromising essential functionality.

  1. Enable Low Power Mode. Open Settings > Battery and toggle on Low Power Mode. This reduces background activity, mail fetch, automatic downloads, and some visual effects. Your iPhone will automatically disable Low Power Mode when charged to 80%.
  2. Reduce screen brightness and enable Auto-Brightness. Go to Settings > Display & Brightness. Drag the brightness slider to around 30-40%. Toggle on Auto-Brightness to let your iPhone adjust screen brightness based on ambient lighting conditions automatically.
  3. Disable background app refresh for unnecessary apps. Navigate to Settings > General > Background App Refresh. Turn off the feature entirely or tap individual apps to disable background updating for apps you don't need constantly refreshed. Keep it enabled only for messaging apps and essential productivity tools.
  4. Turn off location services for non-essential apps. Go to Settings > Privacy & Security > Location Services. Review each app and set location access to 'Never' for apps that don't require your location. Set others to 'While Using App' instead of 'Always' when possible.
  5. Disable push notifications and reduce mail fetch frequency. Open Settings > Mail > Accounts > Fetch New Data. Turn off Push and set Fetch to 'Every 30 minutes' or 'Hourly'. In Settings > Notifications, turn off notifications for apps that aren't critical to avoid constant screen wake-ups.
  6. Enable Optimized Battery Charging. Go to Settings > Battery > Battery Health & Charging and ensure Optimized Battery Charging is enabled. This machine learning feature reduces battery aging by learning your charging routine and delaying charging past 80% until you need it.
  7. Turn on Dark Mode and reduce motion effects. Open Settings > Display & Brightness and select Dark. Navigate to Settings > Accessibility > Motion and enable Reduce Motion to disable parallax effects and animations that consume processing power.
