How to Clear Cache on Android
Android cache stores temporary files to speed up app performance, but accumulated cache can consume storage space and cause app glitches. Clearing cache removes these temporary files without deleting your personal data or app settings.
- Open Android Settings. Tap the Settings app icon on your home screen or app drawer. Alternatively, swipe down from the top of your screen twice and tap the gear icon in the quick settings panel.
- Navigate to Apps or Application Manager. Scroll down and tap Apps, Apps & notifications, or Application Manager depending on your Android version. On Samsung devices, this may be called Apps or Application manager.
- Select the app to clear cache. Browse through your installed apps or use the search icon at the top to find a specific app. Tap on the app name to open its details page.
- Access Storage settings. On the app details page, tap Storage or Storage & cache. This will show you how much storage space the app and its cache are using.
- Clear the app cache. Tap Clear Cache button. The cache will be cleared immediately without confirmation. The cache size should now show 0 B or a significantly reduced amount.
- Clear system cache (optional). To clear all cached data at once, go back to main Settings, tap Storage, then tap Cached data or Other apps. Confirm by tapping OK or Delete when prompted.
