How to Use the Emoji and Symbol Panel in Windows

Access the hidden emoji, kaomoji, and symbol picker in Windows 10 and 11 using a simple keyboard shortcut to insert characters into any application.

1. Open the emoji panel. Click into any text field where you wish to input a symbol. Press the Windows key and the Period key simultaneously to launch the flyout menu.
2. Select your category. Use the navigation bar at the top of the panel to switch between Emoji, Kaomoji, and Symbols. Each tab organizes characters into sub-categories to streamline your search.
3. Insert the character. Click on any emoji or symbol to insert it directly into the active text field. The panel will remain open after insertion, allowing you to add multiple characters in sequence.
4. Access special symbols. Select the Symbols tab represented by the Omega icon. Use the sub-menu buttons at the bottom to filter by General Punctuation, Currency Symbols, Latin Symbols, or Math Symbols.
5. Close the panel. Click outside the panel or press the Escape key on your keyboard to dismiss the menu. Your cursor remains active in the text field for continued typing.
