How to Enable Tamper Protection in Microsoft Defender

Secure your Windows security settings against unauthorized changes by enabling Tamper Protection in Microsoft Defender Antivirus.

  1. Open Windows Security settings. Click the Start button and type Windows Security into the search bar. Select the Windows Security app from the search results to launch the dashboard.
  2. Navigate to Virus & threat protection. Within the Windows Security dashboard, click on the Virus & threat protection icon. This menu houses the primary configuration settings for real-time defense.
  3. Access protection settings. Look for the Virus & threat protection settings header. Click the Manage settings link located directly below it to modify your active security parameters.
  4. Toggle Tamper Protection to On. Scroll down the settings list until you reach the Tamper Protection section. Click the toggle switch to set it to On.
  5. Authorize the system change. A User Account Control prompt will appear asking for permission to make changes. Click Yes to finalize the activation of Tamper Protection.
