Stop Windows from tracking your activity for targeted ads. Follow these steps to disable your Advertising ID and improve your privacy on Windows 11.

  1. Open Windows Settings. Press the Windows key on your keyboard to open the Start menu. Click the Settings icon, which resembles a gear, or press Windows + I to launch the Settings application directly.
  2. Access Privacy & Security. Locate the sidebar on the left side of the Settings window. Click on the Privacy & security tab to view your system's data and permission controls.
  3. Open General Privacy Settings. Under the Windows permissions section, select the General option. This menu contains the primary switches for tracking behaviors across the operating system.
  4. Turn off Advertising ID. Locate the toggle labeled Let apps show me personalized ads by using my advertising ID. Click the switch to set it to Off.
  5. Verify Local Changes. Ensure the toggle is grayed out and shows the Off status. You do not need to restart your computer for these changes to take effect immediately.
