How to Configure Recall Privacy Settings in Windows

Take control of your Windows Recall privacy. Manage snapshots, filter apps, and clear your activity history with these precise configuration steps.

  1. Open Recall & Snapshots settings. Open the Settings app by pressing Windows + I. Navigate to Privacy & security in the left sidebar and select Recall & snapshots from the main panel.
  2. Toggle Recall functionality. Locate the main Save snapshots toggle. Switch this to Off if you want to disable the feature entirely for your user account.
  3. Define app-specific exclusions. Scroll to the Apps section. Click the Add application button to select specific software that you do not want recorded. Windows will ignore all activity generated while these applications are in the foreground.
  4. Enable content filtering. Ensure the Filter sensitive information toggle is active. This enables built-in detection to prevent the capture of credit card numbers, passwords, or PII (Personally Identifiable Information).
  5. Clear your snapshot history. Navigate to the Delete snapshots section. Select a time frame from the drop-down menu or choose All time, then click the Delete all button to permanently remove stored data from your local drive.
