How to Remove Administrative Privileges in Windows 11
Learn how to demote standard user accounts and remove excess administrator privileges on Windows 11 to enhance system security.
- Open the Accounts menu. Press the Windows key to open the Start menu and click the gear icon to launch the Settings app. Select Accounts from the left-hand sidebar to view your system user settings.
- Locate target user account. Click on Other users in the right-hand panel. Find the account you wish to modify in the list and click the downward arrow to expand the account options.
- Change account type. Click the Change account type button located next to the Security section. A new dialog window will appear prompting you to adjust the account privileges.
- Apply standard privileges. Select Standard User from the Account type dropdown menu. Click OK to confirm the changes immediately.
- Confirm the updated role. Verify that the label beneath the account name in the Other users list has updated from Administrator to Standard user. If the label has not changed, restart the Windows Explorer process or reboot the machine.
