How to Improve Text Readability in Windows 11

Optimize your Windows 11 display for better readability. Adjust system font size, scaling, and contrast settings to reduce eye strain.

  1. Adjust system scaling for text and apps. Open the Settings app by pressing Win + I. Navigate to System > Display and locate the Scale menu. Select a higher percentage, such as 125% or 150%, to increase the size of text, icons, and menus across the entire interface.
  2. Increase font size independently. Go to Settings > Accessibility > Text size. Drag the slider to the right to increase the font size across the system without affecting the layout scale of images or buttons. Click Apply once you find a comfortable size.
  3. Enable high contrast themes. Navigate to Settings > Accessibility > Contrast themes. Choose a theme from the dropdown menu, such as Aquatic or Dusk, and click Edit to customize individual color elements. Click Apply to activate the theme.
  4. Activate ClearType text tuning. Press the Win key, type ClearType, and select Adjust ClearType text. Ensure the checkbox for Turn on ClearType is selected, then follow the on-screen prompts to choose the text samples that appear clearest on your monitor.
  5. Enable the built-in Magnifier. Navigate to Settings > Accessibility > Magnifier and toggle the Magnifier switch to On. Use the Win + Plus sign shortcut to zoom into specific areas of the screen where text is difficult to read.
