How to Create a System Restore Point in Windows 11

Learn how to manually create a system restore point in Windows 11 to protect your configuration before making critical system changes.

  1. Open System Properties. Press the Windows key on your keyboard to open the Start menu. Type 'create a restore point' into the search bar and select the top result labeled Create a restore point.
  2. Enable System Protection. Locate the Protection Settings section. Ensure the local drive containing your Windows installation (usually C:) is selected, then click the Configure button.
  3. Initiate the Create process. Return to the System Protection tab in the System Properties window. Click the Create button located at the bottom of the dialogue box.
  4. Name the restore point. Enter a descriptive name for the restore point in the text field provided. This helps identify the state of the machine should you need to roll back later.
  5. Complete the creation. Click the Create button. Wait for the progress bar to finish; Windows will notify you once the restore point has been created successfully.
