Learn how to manually create a system restore point in Windows 11 to safeguard your configuration and data before making significant system changes.

  1. Open the System Properties menu. Click the Start button and type 'restore' into the search bar. Select the result labeled 'Create a restore point' to launch the System Properties window directly to the System Protection tab.
  2. Enable protection for your system drive. Identify your system drive, typically labeled as (C:) (System). If the Protection column displays 'Off', select the drive and click the 'Configure' button to enable protection and set a maximum disk space limit for restore points.
  3. Initialize the creation process. Ensure your system drive is selected in the 'Protection Settings' list. Click the 'Create' button located at the bottom of the System Protection tab.
  4. Name the restore point. Enter a descriptive name for the restore point, such as 'Pre-Update Configuration' or 'Driver Installation Point'. Windows will automatically append the current date and time to this label for identification.
  5. Complete the process. Click the 'Create' button in the prompt. Wait for the progress bar to finish and verify the confirmation message indicating the restore point was created successfully.
