How to Create a System Restore Point in Windows 11
Learn how to manually create a system restore point in Windows 11 to safeguard your configuration and data before making significant system changes.
- Open the System Properties menu. Click the Start button and type 'restore' into the search bar. Select the result labeled 'Create a restore point' to launch the System Properties window directly to the System Protection tab.
- Enable protection for your system drive. Identify your system drive, typically labeled as (C:) (System). If the Protection column displays 'Off', select the drive and click the 'Configure' button to enable protection and set a maximum disk space limit for restore points.
- Initialize the creation process. Ensure your system drive is selected in the 'Protection Settings' list. Click the 'Create' button located at the bottom of the System Protection tab.
- Name the restore point. Enter a descriptive name for the restore point, such as 'Pre-Update Configuration' or 'Driver Installation Point'. Windows will automatically append the current date and time to this label for identification.
- Complete the process. Click the 'Create' button in the prompt. Wait for the progress bar to finish and verify the confirmation message indicating the restore point was created successfully.
