How to Customize Windows Account Shortcuts

Learn to manage and customize Windows account shortcuts and lock screen sign-in options to streamline your system workflow.

  1. Open Windows Settings. Press the Windows key and select the gear icon to launch the Settings application. Alternatively, use the keyboard shortcut to navigate directly to system configurations.
  2. Access Account Settings. Locate the Accounts tab in the left-hand sidebar. Click on 'Your info' to view your current profile details and identity shortcuts.
  3. Modify Sign-in Options. Select 'Sign-in options' within the Accounts menu. Here you can define specific shortcuts for Windows Hello, such as PIN, facial recognition, or security keys.
  4. Create a Desktop Account Switcher. Right-click on your desktop, select New, then Shortcut. Type 'tsdiscon.exe' into the location field to create a direct shortcut that locks your workstation and returns to the account selection screen instantly.
  5. Assign a Keyboard Hotkey. Right-click the newly created shortcut and select Properties. Click the 'Shortcut key' field and press your preferred combination to trigger the lock screen manually.
  6. Test the Configuration. Execute the newly assigned keyboard shortcut to ensure the system locks as intended. Input your credentials to confirm the sign-in shortcuts function correctly.
