How to change your PC name in Windows 11

Learn how to rename your Windows 11 computer to better identify it on your network using the Settings menu.

  1. Open the System Settings. Open the Start menu and select the Settings gear icon. Alternatively, press Windows + I on your keyboard to launch the application immediately.
  2. Access the About menu. Ensure the System tab is selected in the left-hand sidebar. Scroll to the bottom of the right-hand panel and click the About option.
  3. Initiate the rename process. Locate the Rename this PC button near the top of the About menu. Click the button to trigger the Rename your PC dialog box.
  4. Enter your new computer name. Type your desired name into the text field. Note that names cannot contain spaces, special characters, or exceed 15 characters in length.
  5. Confirm the name change. Click the Next button to verify the new name. Select the Restart now button to apply the changes to your system registry.
