How to change default apps on Windows 11
Learn how to configure default applications in Windows 11. Follow these steps to override system defaults for browsers, mail, and file types.
- Open the Settings application. Press Windows Key + I on your keyboard to launch the Settings application. Alternatively, open the Start menu and select the gear icon.
- Access the Apps menu. In the left-hand navigation sidebar, click on the Apps category. Select Default apps from the main window pane to view all installed software.
- Identify the application. Use the search bar labeled 'Set a default for a file type or link type' to find the specific app you wish to use as your default. Click on the application icon once it appears in the search results.
- Modify the default associations. Review the list of file types and link types associated with that application. Click on any file extension that currently uses a different application and select your preferred app from the list. Click Set default to confirm your choice.
- Confirm the changes. Close the Settings window. Open a file of the type you just modified to ensure it launches in your newly selected default application.
