How to Set Up Windows Hello on a New PC

Configure Windows Hello for secure, password-free access to your Windows 11 PC using facial recognition, fingerprint, or a PIN.

  1. Open Sign-in options. Open the Start menu and select Settings. Navigate to Accounts in the left sidebar, then click on Sign-in options to view available authentication methods.
  2. Before enabling biometrics, you must set a PIN. Select PIN (Windows Hello) from the list and click Set up, then follow the on-screen prompts to create a secure numerical code.
  3. Click on Facial recognition (Windows Hello) and select Set up. Click Get started and position your face within the frame as prompted by the camera interface.
  4. Click on Fingerprint recognition (Windows Hello) and select Set up. Place your finger on the scanner repeatedly until the progress bar completes, adjusting your grip to capture all edges of your print.
  5. Lock your PC by pressing Win + L. Attempt to sign back in using the biometric method you just configured to verify successful registration.
