Setting Up a New Windows 11 PC
A precise guide to configuring your new Windows 11 PC, from initial OOBE setup to essential system optimization for peak performance.
- Complete the Out-of-Box Experience. Power on your PC and follow the prompts to select your region, keyboard layout, and network connection. When prompted to sign in, use your Microsoft Account to enable cloud synchronization across devices. Avoid using a local account unless specifically required for enterprise environments.
- Run Windows Update. Navigate to Settings > Windows Update and select Check for updates. Allow the system to download and install all pending security patches, firmware updates, and drivers. Restart the computer once the installation is complete to ensure all components are active.
- Optimize Privacy Settings. Go to Settings > Privacy & security. Disable diagnostic data sharing and toggle off individual switches for location, camera, and microphone access for apps that do not require them. Review these settings regularly to maintain a controlled data footprint.
- Remove Pre-installed Bloatware. Navigate to Settings > Apps > Installed apps. Review the list for manufacturer-specific software, promotional games, or trial applications you do not intend to use. Click the three-dot menu next to each unwanted app and select Uninstall to reclaim system resources.

- Create a System Restore Point. Search for Create a restore point in the Start menu. Select your system drive, click Configure, and ensure 'Turn on system protection' is enabled with an appropriate disk space usage limit. Click Create to finalize a snapshot of your clean installation state.
