How to set the correct monitor refresh rate in Windows 11

Learn how to optimize your visual experience by manually setting the correct refresh rate for your display in Windows 11.

  1. Navigate to the Display settings menu. Right-click any empty space on your desktop and select Display settings from the context menu. Alternatively, press the Windows key + I to open Settings and select System followed by Display.
  2. Access Advanced display settings. Scroll down the Display menu to the Related settings section. Click the Advanced display option to view detailed hardware information for all connected monitors.
  3. Choose the target monitor. If you have multiple displays, use the Select a display dropdown menu at the top of the screen to choose the monitor you want to configure. Ensure the primary monitor is selected before proceeding.
  4. Modify the Choose a refresh rate setting. Locate the Choose a refresh rate dropdown menu. Click the menu to display all supported frequencies, then select the highest available refresh rate listed for your panel.
  5. Apply and keep changes. Once the rate is selected, your screen will momentarily turn black while the display synchronizes. A prompt will appear asking if you want to keep the display settings; click Keep changes to confirm.
