How to Rename Your Windows PC

Learn how to rename your Windows 11 PC before syncing files or connecting to a network. Follow these precise steps to update your device identity.

1. Open the System settings menu. Press the Windows key on your keyboard to open the Start menu. Select the Settings icon or press Windows + I to open the Settings application directly.
2. Access the About page. Ensure the System tab is selected in the left-hand sidebar. Scroll down the right-hand panel and click on the About menu item.
3. Initiate the rename process. Click the Rename this PC button located at the top of the About section under the Device specifications header. This will trigger a system dialog box.
4. Enter your new computer name. Type your desired name into the text field. Names cannot contain spaces or special characters, so use hyphens or underscores if needed.
5. Restart your system. Click Next and then select Restart Now to apply the changes. The name update will not finalize until the Windows operating system performs a full reboot.
