How to set heart rate alerts on Apple Watch

Configure high and low heart rate notifications on your Apple Watch to monitor cardiovascular health and receive proactive alerts.

  1. Open the Watch app on iPhone. Unlock your paired iPhone and launch the Watch app from the Home Screen. Ensure the My Watch tab is selected in the bottom navigation bar.
  2. Access Heart settings. Scroll down the list of settings and tap on Heart. This menu contains all available heart rate monitoring configurations.
  3. Set high heart rate alerts. Tap High Heart Rate. Select a Beats Per Minute (BPM) threshold from the provided options, ranging from 100 to 150 BPM. The Apple Watch will notify you if your heart rate remains at or above this level after 10 minutes of inactivity.
  4. Set low heart rate alerts. Return to the Heart menu and tap Low Heart Rate. Select a BPM threshold between 40 and 50 BPM. You will receive an alert if your heart rate drops below this level for 10 minutes.
  5. Confirm notification settings. Navigate to the Health app on your iPhone and tap your profile picture. Select Health Checklist to ensure these alerts are active and reporting data correctly to your Health record.
