How to Restore a Smartwatch Without Losing Health Data
Restore your smartwatch to factory settings while preserving your health and fitness history. Follow these steps to back up and sync your data securely.
- Force a manual cloud backup. Open the companion app on your smartphone to initiate a sync. Navigate to your device settings, select 'General', and tap 'Back Up Now' to ensure your latest activity rings, workout history, and health metrics are uploaded to your cloud account.
- Check cloud data synchronization. Open the Health or Fitness app on your phone and scroll to the most recent daily entry. If your current steps and heart rate data appear, the cloud backup is successful and ready for restoration.
- Perform the factory reset. On your wearable, navigate to Settings > General > Reset. Select 'Erase All Content and Settings' and confirm your selection when prompted. The device will restart and return to its out-of-box configuration.
- Initiate the re-pairing process. Bring your smartphone near your wearable. Open the companion app and follow the on-screen prompts to start the pairing process, treating the device as a new hardware connection.
- Apply the backup from cloud storage. During the setup phase, the application will prompt you to 'Restore from Backup'. Select the most recent date-stamped backup file from the list to migrate your settings, preferences, and health data back to the device.
- Re-enable health sync permissions. Navigate to the privacy settings in your companion app to confirm that Health sharing permissions are toggled to 'On'. Verify your activity rings have populated on the watch face.
