How to Pair Your Apple Watch With a New iPhone

Learn the correct method to transfer your existing Apple Watch to a new iPhone while preserving your data and health history.

  1. Back up your old iPhone. On your old iPhone, navigate to Settings > [Your Name] > iCloud > iCloud Backup. Tap Back Up Now to ensure your most recent Apple Watch data is captured in your iCloud backup.
  2. Unpair the Apple Watch. Open the Watch app on your old iPhone. Go to the My Watch tab, tap All Watches in the top-left corner, and tap the 'i' icon next to your watch. Select Unpair Apple Watch to break the connection and force a final backup to your iPhone.
  3. Set up your new iPhone. Power on your new iPhone and follow the on-screen prompts to restore from your iCloud backup. Ensure you select the most recent backup performed in Step 1 to maintain your health and fitness data history.
  4. Pair the Watch to the new iPhone. Place your Apple Watch near your new iPhone. Open the Watch app on the new phone and follow the on-screen instructions to initiate the pairing process. When prompted, select Restore from Backup to load your previously saved watch settings.
  5. Verify sync completion. Wait for the progress ring to complete on the Apple Watch face. Once finished, check the Watch app on your iPhone to ensure all complications and health metrics are synced correctly.
