How to Pair a New Apple Watch

Follow this guide to pair your new Apple Watch to your iPhone. Learn the setup process for watchOS and iOS integration in minutes.

  1. Power on the Apple Watch. Press and hold the side button on your Apple Watch until the Apple logo appears on the display. Ensure the device has sufficient battery charge or place it on its magnetic charger during the pairing process.
  2. Open the Watch app. Unlock your iPhone and open the Watch app. If you are already paired with another watch, tap All Watches at the top left of the screen and select Add Watch.
  3. Scan the pairing animation. Select Set Up for Myself within the app. Position your iPhone so the Apple Watch appears in the viewfinder of the camera. The devices will automatically detect each other and initiate the handshake.
  4. Restore or set up as new. Choose whether to restore your watch from a previous backup or select Set Up as New Apple Watch. This selection determines if your previous settings, apps, and watch faces will be transferred.
  5. Sign in with Apple ID. Enter your Apple ID password when prompted. This step is required to activate Activation Lock and enable services such as Find My and Apple Pay.
  6. Configure preferences. Follow the remaining prompts to enable features like Siri, Location Services, and Heart Rate monitoring. Once completed, the watch will begin syncing data from your iPhone.
