How to Monitor Battery Health on Wearables

Learn how to assess battery health on Apple Watch and Garmin devices to ensure peak performance and longevity.

  1. Navigate to Battery settings on Apple Watch. Open the Settings app directly on your Apple Watch. Scroll down and tap on the Battery menu to access detailed power management statistics.
  2. Inspect Battery Health percentage. Select Battery Health from the list. The screen displays the maximum capacity of your battery relative to when it was new, expressed as a percentage.
  3. Review charge cycles for Garmin devices. Garmin devices do not show a percentage in the menu. Use the Garmin Connect app on your smartphone, navigate to Devices, select your watch, and choose Device Settings to view total runtime logs.
  4. Identify physical deformation. Inspect the watch casing for slight bulging or separation between the screen and the chassis. Battery swelling creates internal pressure that forces the display assembly outward.
  5. Perform a battery calibration cycle. Drain the wearable until it powers off completely, then charge it to 100% without interruption. This forces the power management chip to re-index the voltage range of the battery cells.
