How to Set Up Your Wear OS Smartwatch

Complete setup guide for Wear OS smartwatches. Connect to phone, configure settings, and install essential apps in minutes.

  1. Charge your smartwatch. Place your Wear OS watch on its charging dock and connect the charger to power. Wait until the battery reaches at least 50% before proceeding. The watch will display a charging animation and battery percentage on screen.
  2. Download the Wear OS app. Install the Wear OS by Google app from Google Play Store (Android) or App Store (iPhone). Open the app and tap 'Set up a watch' on the welcome screen. Grant location permissions when prompted.
  3. Power on and select your watch. Press and hold the crown button on your watch until it turns on. On your phone, tap your watch model from the list in the Wear OS app. If your watch doesn't appear, tap 'I don't see my device' and select your model manually.
  4. Complete Bluetooth pairing. When prompted on your watch, tap 'Pair with phone.' Your phone will display a pairing request notification—tap 'Pair' to confirm. Enter the six-digit code shown on your watch into the Wear OS app when requested.
  5. Sign in to your Google account. Select your Google account on your watch or add a new one. Enter your password using the on-screen keyboard or voice input. This account will sync your apps, settings, and data across devices.
  6. Configure essential settings. Enable Wi-Fi by selecting your network and entering the password. Turn on location services, notification access, and app permissions as prompted. Choose whether to enable always-on display and wrist gestures based on your preferences.
  7. Complete the setup process. Wait for the initial app sync to finish—this typically takes 5-10 minutes. Your watch will restart automatically when complete. Test basic functions like receiving a notification by sending yourself a text message.
