How to Configure Apple Watch Notifications

Master your Apple Watch notifications. Learn how to customize alerts, mirror settings, and manage focus modes to streamline your wrist experience.

  1. Access notification settings via the Watch app. Open the Watch app on your paired iPhone. Navigate to the My Watch tab at the bottom left of the screen and tap Notifications to view the global configuration list.
  2. Adjust notification mirroring. Select an app from the list to determine its alert behavior. Choose Mirror my iPhone to replicate the notification settings currently active on your handset, or select Custom to define unique alert preferences for the watch specifically.
  3. Enable notification grouping. Within the main Notifications menu, locate the Notification Grouping section. Toggle this to Automatic to ensure multiple alerts from the same application appear in a single stack rather than individual cards.
  4. Manage notification privacy. Toggle the Notification Privacy setting to ensure alert details remain hidden until you tap the display. This prevents sensitive information from being visible when you lift your wrist in public spaces.
  5. Configure Notification Summaries. Open Settings on your Apple Watch, tap Notifications, and select Notification Summary. Enable this feature to receive a consolidated digest of non-urgent notifications at scheduled times throughout the day, reducing repetitive wrist taps.
  6. Test haptic feedback intensity. Navigate to Settings > Sounds & Haptics on the Apple Watch. Choose Prominent to receive an extra tap for incoming notifications, which improves noticeability in active environments.
