How to Configure Activity Tracking on Apple Watch

Set up your Activity rings and personal health goals on Apple Watch to monitor daily movement, exercise, and standing habits accurately.

  1. Open the Activity app on your Apple Watch. Press the Digital Crown to view your app grid or list. Locate and tap the Activity icon, represented by the three interlocking red, green, and blue rings. If this is your first time accessing the app, you will be prompted to provide personal metrics.
  2. Enter your physical profile details. Follow the on-screen prompts to input your sex, age, height, and weight. The system uses this data to calibrate the motion sensors and heart rate monitor for precise energy expenditure tracking. Confirm your entries by tapping Save.
  3. Establish your daily Move goal. The Move goal represents active calories burned per day. Adjust the daily calorie target using the plus (+) or minus (-) buttons on the screen based on your recommended activity level. Tap Set Goal to finalize the value.
  4. Enable Activity notifications. Open the Watch app on your paired iPhone and navigate to the My Watch tab. Tap Activity and ensure that Stand Reminders and Daily Coaching are toggled to the On position. This ensures the watch prompts you to close rings throughout the day.
  5. Verify ring progress. Return to the Activity app on your Apple Watch to view the current status of your rings. Swipe up or rotate the Digital Crown to see a breakdown of your Move, Exercise, and Stand progress. Your rings will populate as you complete physical movement throughout the day.
