How to Fix Wearable Screen Brightness Issues

Restore your wearable's display performance with these troubleshooting steps for brightness, ambient sensors, and power management settings.

  1. Disable power-saving modes. Low Power Mode often restricts display brightness to extend battery life. Swipe up or down to access the Control Center and verify if the battery percentage icon is yellow, indicating the mode is active. Tap the icon to disable it and observe if the screen brightness returns to normal levels.
  2. Clean the ambient light sensor. Obstructed or dirty sensors cause the device to miscalculate required brightness levels. Use a dry, lint-free microfiber cloth to wipe the sensor area, typically located on the display bezel or side housing. Avoid using cleaning solutions or compressed air, as these may damage internal components.
  3. Adjust manual brightness settings. If auto-brightness is failing, navigate to Settings > Display & Brightness. Manually slide the brightness control to the maximum position to confirm the display hardware is functional. If the screen remains dim at the highest setting, a hardware failure is likely.
  4. Verify Always-On Display settings. Always-On features intentionally dim the screen when the wrist is lowered. Check Settings > Display & Brightness > Always On to ensure the feature is toggled correctly. Disable and re-enable the feature to refresh the display driver synchronization.
  5. Force restart the device. Software glitches frequently affect display management drivers. Hold the side button and the digital crown simultaneously for ten seconds until the device logo appears. Release the buttons once the device begins its reboot sequence.
  6. Update system firmware. Outdated firmware can cause display handshake errors. Open the companion application on your smartphone, navigate to General > Software Update, and install any pending packages. Ensure the device is connected to its charger during the update process to prevent interruptions.
