How to Resolve a Stuck Firmware Update on Wearable Devices

Resolve stalled firmware updates on your smartwatch or tracker. Follow these steps to force a restart, clear cache, and complete the installation successfully.

  1. Force restart the wearable device. Press and hold the physical side button and the digital crown simultaneously for at least 10 seconds. Release buttons only when the manufacturer logo appears on the display. This clears the frozen process without erasing stored user data.
  2. Toggle Airplane Mode. Swipe up or down to access the Control Center on your wearable. Enable Airplane Mode, wait 30 seconds, and disable it. This forces the device to re-establish a handshake with the host smartphone.
  3. Clear the companion app cache. Close the companion app on your smartphone entirely by swiping it away from the app switcher. Open the Smartphone Settings, navigate to Apps, select the wearable companion app, and select Force Stop. Relaunch the app to refresh the data sync.
  4. Delete the pending update file. Open the companion app on your smartphone and navigate to General Settings. Select Usage or Storage, locate the pending firmware update file, and tap Delete. This removes the corrupted package that caused the installation to hang.
  5. Restart the firmware installation. Place the wearable on its charger and keep it within close proximity to your smartphone. Navigate back to the update section in your companion app and select Download and Install. Keep the device unlocked and connected to power until the progress bar reaches completion.
