How to Force Restart a Frozen Wearable
Learn the exact button combinations to force restart a frozen smartwatch or fitness tracker and restore system responsiveness.
- Verify the screen status. Confirm the display is frozen and not merely displaying a low-battery icon. If the screen is black, connect the device to its charger for 15 minutes before attempting a restart.
- Trigger the hardware reset. Press and hold both the Digital Crown and the side button simultaneously for at least 10 seconds. Do not release the buttons when the power-off slider appears; continue holding until the screen goes black.
- Release the buttons. Release both buttons immediately once the manufacturer logo or brand icon appears on the display. The device will now begin its standard boot-up sequence.
- Test device input. Once the home screen or watch face loads, perform a swipe and tap action to confirm the touch digitizer is functioning. If the interface is still sluggish, navigate to settings to check for available firmware updates.
- Clear resource-heavy apps. Open the app switcher by pressing the side button and swipe left on any third-party apps that were running when the freeze occurred. Close these applications to prevent a recurring system hang.
