How to Validate Smart Lock Functionality After Ownership Transfer

Follow this procedure to verify your smart lock's security, connectivity, and firmware status after a successful account transfer.

  1. Confirm factory reset status. Before pairing, ensure the previous owner's data is fully purged. If the lock does not immediately enter pairing mode when powered on or via the app, trigger a hard factory reset using the physical reset button located on the interior assembly.
  2. Perform the initial mobile handshake. Open the manufacturer app and select Add Device. Follow the on-screen prompts to connect the lock to your personal Wi-Fi network. Ensure your mobile device has Bluetooth enabled to complete the initial provisioning handshake.
  3. Check for firmware updates. Navigate to Device Settings > Firmware within the app. If an update is available, initiate it immediately to patch known security vulnerabilities left by the previous owner. Do not interrupt the power supply while the update progress bar is active.
  4. Execute a manual and remote lock test. Lock and unlock the device via the app dashboard to confirm motor response time. Verify that the status indicator in the app correctly reflects the current state (locked/unlocked). Test the physical thumb-turn to ensure it provides smooth, mechanical engagement.
  5. Purge legacy access codes. Navigate to the Users or Guest Access menu within the app. Remove all existing entry codes, fingerprint profiles, or NFC key cards associated with the previous owner. Create a new primary administrative code to secure the device.
  6. Review the activity log. Check the Event History or Activity Log to ensure there are no active alerts or lingering errors from the previous owner's session. Clear the log if the interface allows to establish a clean baseline for your monitoring.
