How to Move Google Home Devices to a New Home
Follow these steps to migrate your Google Home devices to a new home structure within the Google Home app without factory resetting your hardware.
- Create the new home structure. Open the Google Home app and tap the home switcher icon at the top of the screen. Select Add a home from the menu, enter a descriptive name, and provide the physical address if prompted. This establishes the digital destination for your devices.
- Navigate to the device settings. Select your current home from the switcher. Tap on the Devices tab to view all connected hardware. Long-press the tile of the device you wish to move, then tap the Settings icon in the top right corner.
- Update the home assignment. Within the device settings menu, tap the Home option. Select the new home you created in Step 1 from the provided list. The app will automatically initiate the transfer process for that specific device.
- Assign a room. Once the device moves to the new home, tap the Room option within the device settings. Select an existing room or create a new one to keep your device organization consistent.
- Verify device functionality. Switch the app context to your new home using the top switcher. Test the device by issuing a voice command or using the touch controls in the app to ensure connectivity is established and responsive.
- Delete the empty home. After all devices are moved, switch back to the original home. Tap Settings, scroll to the bottom, and select Delete this home. Confirm the action to finalize the migration.
