Configuring Guest Access for Smart Home Devices
Streamline guest control of your smart home devices using HomeKit, Google Home, or Alexa guest permissions. Ensure seamless access without privacy risks.
- Invite a guest to the Apple Home app. Open the Home app on your iPhone or iPad. Tap the More (...) icon in the top right corner, then select Home Settings. Tap Invite People, enter their Apple ID, and toggle on Allow Remote Access if you want them to control devices while away from your network.
- Define specific device permissions. Select the newly invited guest from your Home Settings list. Toggle on Add and Edit Accessories if you want them to have full control, or leave it off to restrict them to basic operations like toggling lights and locks. Tap Send Invite to finalize the authorization.
- Configure guest access in Google Home. Open the Google Home app and tap the Settings icon. Select Household, then tap the plus (+) icon to invite a member. Enter their email address and tap Send to grant them access to all devices currently registered within that home group.
- Test guest control functionality. Have your guest open their respective home management application on their device. Verify they can see the assigned rooms and toggle the devices you enabled. Confirm that unresponsive devices are toggled off in your primary admin dashboard if they show as disconnected.
- Remove guest access post-visit. Once your guests have departed, navigate back to your Home Settings menu. Select the guest user profile and tap Remove Person. This immediately revokes their digital key to your home network devices.
