How to Create a Whole-Home Speaker Group

Learn how to synchronize audio across multiple smart speakers for a seamless whole-home listening experience using the Google Home application.

  1. Verify device connectivity. Ensure all smart speakers are powered on and connected to the same Wi-Fi network as your mobile device. Open the Google Home app and confirm each speaker appears as an active device in the main dashboard.
  2. Initiate group creation. Tap the '+' icon located in the top-left corner of the Google Home home screen. Select 'Create speaker group' from the 'Add and manage' menu options to begin the configuration wizard.
  3. Select participant devices. The app displays a list of all compatible devices on your network. Tap the checkbox next to every speaker you intend to include in the whole-home group, then tap 'Next'.
  4. Assign a group name. Enter a descriptive label for the group, such as 'Whole Home' or 'Downstairs'. This name will appear as a single playback target in your streaming applications.
  5. Save the configuration. Review your selection and tap 'Save'. The group will now appear as a new tile on your Google Home dashboard, ready to receive audio streams from any integrated music provider.
  6. Verify playback synchronization. Open your preferred music streaming app and select the newly created group name from the device list. Play a track to confirm audio output is synchronized across all selected hardware.
