How to Control Your TV Using a Smart Speaker
Connect your TV to a smart speaker to enable hands-free power, volume, and playback control using voice commands.
- Enable network discovery on your TV. Ensure your TV and smart speaker are connected to the same local Wi-Fi network. Navigate to Settings > Network > Remote Device Settings on your television and toggle on the option for external control or IP control.
- Add the device to your smart home application. Open the home management app on your mobile device, such as Google Home, Amazon Alexa, or Apple Home. Tap the plus icon or select Add Device, then choose TV from the list of compatible hardware.
- Complete the account linking process. Follow the on-screen prompts to sign in to your TV manufacturer's account if requested. Grant the smart home app permission to access your television's power and media controls.
- Assign the TV to a room. Select a room name for your television within the app interface. This grouping allows you to trigger commands like 'Turn off the living room TV' rather than specifying a device name.
- Issue your first voice command. Speak a test command to your smart speaker, such as 'Hey Google, turn on the TV' or 'Alexa, set TV volume to 20.' Observe the TV status indicator to confirm execution.
