How to set up your Google Home device

Follow this step-by-step guide to configure your Google Home device, connect it to your Wi-Fi network, and link it to your Google account.

  1. Power on the device. Connect the provided power cable to the Google Home unit and plug it into a wall outlet. Wait for the light indicators on the top or side of the device to pulse, signaling it is ready for setup.
  2. Download the Google Home app. Install the Google Home application from the Google Play Store or the Apple App Store. Once installed, sign in using your primary Google account credentials.
  3. Add a new device. Open the Google Home app and tap the '+' icon in the top-left corner of the dashboard. Select 'Set up device' followed by 'New device'.
  4. Complete device discovery. Select your home from the list provided. The app will initiate a handshake with your Google Home. When the device plays a chime, tap 'Yes' in the application to confirm.
  5. Assign location and network. Select the room where your device is located to help with organizational naming. Choose your local Wi-Fi network from the list and allow the device to sync the password directly from your connected smartphone.
  6. Activate Voice Match. Follow the on-screen prompts to train the device to recognize your voice. This allows the Google Assistant to provide personalized results based on your specific Google account activity.
