How to set up your Google Home device
Follow this step-by-step guide to configure your Google Home device, connect it to your Wi-Fi network, and link it to your Google account.
- Power on the device. Connect the provided power cable to the Google Home unit and plug it into a wall outlet. Wait for the light indicators on the top or side of the device to pulse, signaling it is ready for setup.
- Download the Google Home app. Install the Google Home application from the Google Play Store or the Apple App Store. Once installed, sign in using your primary Google account credentials.
- Add a new device. Open the Google Home app and tap the '+' icon in the top-left corner of the dashboard. Select 'Set up device' followed by 'New device'.
- Complete device discovery. Select your home from the list provided. The app will initiate a handshake with your Google Home. When the device plays a chime, tap 'Yes' in the application to confirm.
- Assign location and network. Select the room where your device is located to help with organizational naming. Choose your local Wi-Fi network from the list and allow the device to sync the password directly from your connected smartphone.
- Activate Voice Match. Follow the on-screen prompts to train the device to recognize your voice. This allows the Google Assistant to provide personalized results based on your specific Google account activity.
