How to Share Smart Home Access With Family

Learn how to grant secure access to your Apple Home accessories for family members using the Home app on iOS.

1. Open the Home app. Launch the Home app on your iPhone or iPad. Ensure you are signed in to the iCloud account currently serving as the Home owner.
2. Access Home settings. Tap the More icon (three dots inside a circle) in the top-right corner of the screen. Select Home Settings from the dropdown menu.
3. Invite your family member. Under the People section, tap Invite People. Enter the email address or phone number associated with the recipient's Apple ID.
4. Configure access permissions. Toggle Allow Remote Access to enable control when the user is away from the home. Enable Allow Editing if you wish to grant the user permission to add or remove accessories.
5. Send the invitation. Tap Send Invite in the top-right corner. The recipient will receive a notification on their device to accept the invitation via the Home app.
6. Confirm membership status. Once accepted, the family member's icon will appear under the People list in your Home Settings. Verify their status by checking for the 'Accepted' label beneath their name.
