How to Configure Multi-Room Audio with Smart Speakers

A precise guide to syncing smart speakers across your home for unified audio playback using the Home app on iOS.

  1. Assign individual devices to rooms. Open the Home app on your iOS device. Long-press the icon for your new speaker, select Accessory Settings, and tap Room to choose or create a physical location for the device.
  2. Create a speaker group for multi-room audio. Navigate to the Home tab and tap the plus icon in the top right corner. Select Add Accessory, then choose Create Speaker Group to begin selecting the devices you wish to synchronize.
  3. Name your speaker configuration. Assign a distinct name to your new group, such as Entire House or Downstairs. This label acts as the target for AirPlay streams and voice requests.
  4. Test the connection. Open your preferred media app, such as Apple Music or Podcasts. Tap the AirPlay icon and verify that your newly created speaker group appears in the device list.
  5. Initiate synchronized playback. Select the speaker group from the AirPlay menu. Audio will now play simultaneously across all devices assigned to that group.
