How to install a smart lock
Upgrade your home security with this step-by-step guide to installing a smart deadbolt lock. Ensure seamless integration with your existing door hardware.
- Remove the existing deadbolt. Use a Phillips head screwdriver to remove the screws from the interior thumb-turn assembly. Pull both the interior and exterior lock halves away from the door. Remove the two screws securing the latch plate to the door edge and slide the latch mechanism out.
- Install the new latch. Insert the new latch mechanism into the door edge. Ensure the 'Top' marking faces upward and the bevel faces the door jamb. Secure the latch to the door using the provided screws, ensuring the plate sits flush against the door edge.
- Mount the exterior keypad. Feed the cable through the door bore hole and rest the exterior keypad assembly against the door. Ensure the tailpiece slides through the latch mechanism in a horizontal position. Use the included mounting plate to secure the exterior unit from the inside of the door.
- Connect the wire harness. Plug the wire harness from the exterior assembly into the slot on the back of the interior mounting assembly. Ensure the connector clicks into place and the wires are tucked into the side channel to prevent pinching. Align the interior assembly with the mounting plate and tailpiece.
- Secure the interior assembly and power. Screw the interior assembly into the mounting plate using the provided machine screws. Remove the battery cover and insert the recommended AA batteries following the polarity indicators. The lock will perform an automatic hand-shaking sequence to detect the door orientation.
- Pair with the mobile application. Download the manufacturer's official app from the App Store or Google Play Store. Create an account and select 'Add Device' to begin the pairing process. Scan the QR code located on the interior unit or the included programming guide to finalize network setup.
