How to Install a Battery-Powered Video Doorbell

Learn how to mount, configure, and secure your wireless video doorbell for optimal motion detection and live stream performance.

  1. Charge and sync the device. Fully charge the battery pack using the provided USB cable before installation. Once charged, insert the battery into the doorbell and use your smartphone application to complete the initial Wi-Fi setup and firmware update while the device is still indoors.
  2. Determine the optimal mounting height. Position the doorbell 48 inches (120 cm) from the ground for the best balance between face detection and package visibility. Hold the device against the wall and verify the view in the application’s live feed before marking any drill points.
  3. Mark and drill pilot holes. Place the mounting bracket against the wall at your chosen height. Use a pencil to mark the screw locations, then use a power drill with the appropriate masonry or wood bit to create pilot holes if mounting on brick, stucco, or concrete.
  4. Secure the mounting bracket. Align the bracket with the pilot holes and secure it using the provided mounting screws. Do not overtighten, as this can crack the plastic housing or cause the bracket to sit unevenly against the surface.
  5. Attach the doorbell to the bracket. Slide the doorbell unit onto the mounting bracket until it clicks firmly into place. Most models require an additional security screw at the base to lock the unit to the bracket and prevent unauthorized removal.
  6. Configure motion zones and sensitivity. Open the doorbell settings in the application to define motion detection zones. Exclude high-traffic areas like sidewalks or moving tree branches to reduce false alerts and maximize battery life.
