How to link streaming music services to your smart speaker
A step-by-step guide to linking Spotify, Apple Music, or Tidal to your smart speaker for voice-controlled playback.
- Open the management application. Launch the dedicated control application for your smart speaker on your mobile device. Ensure your smartphone is connected to the same Wi-Fi network as the speaker to facilitate discovery.
- Access device settings. Locate the Settings or Device Preferences menu within the application interface. On Amazon Alexa, navigate to More > Settings > Music & Podcasts. On Google Home, navigate to Settings > Music.
- Link your streaming provider. Select Link New Service or Add Music Service from the list of options. Choose your provider from the presented list, such as Apple Music, Spotify, or Tidal.
- Authorize account access. Follow the browser prompt to log into your music service account using your credentials. Approve the permission request to allow the smart speaker ecosystem to access your playlists and playback history.
- Set the default service. Return to the Music settings menu to designate the newly linked service as your default provider. This action ensures that voice commands like 'Play jazz' automatically route through your preferred platform.
- Test the voice command. Speak a playback command to your smart speaker to confirm connectivity. Say 'Play music' or 'Play my favorites' to verify the stream initiates successfully.
