How to Remove Duplicate Smart Home Devices
Clean up your smart home ecosystem by removing ghost devices and resolving synchronization errors in the Apple Home app.
- Identify the source of the duplication. Open the Home app and locate the duplicated accessory. Tap the device tile, select Accessory Details, and check the 'Bridge' information at the bottom to determine which manufacturer bridge is reporting the device.
- Remove redundant third-party integrations. Open the native app for the device manufacturer. Navigate to Settings and locate Linked Services or Third-Party Integrations to see if multiple bridges are authorized to sync the same hardware.
- Delete the redundant device tile. In the Home app, long-press the duplicate device tile. Tap Accessory Settings, scroll to the bottom, and select Remove Accessory to excise the ghost entry from your Home configuration.
- Restart the Home Hub. Force a state refresh by power cycling your Home Hub. If using an Apple TV, go to Settings > System > Restart; if using a HomePod, unplug the device for 10 seconds and reconnect.
- Verify device status consistency. Test the remaining device tile by toggling it on and off. If the device fails to respond, perform a hard factory reset on the physical hardware and add it back as a fresh accessory to establish a clean configuration.
