How to Customize Smart Home Routines

Master your smart home environment by customizing automation routines. Follow these steps to trigger actions based on time, location, and device status.

  1. Navigate to the Automation tab. Open the Home app on your iPhone. Locate and tap the Automation icon in the bottom navigation bar to view your existing triggers.
  2. Select a trigger event. Tap the plus (+) icon in the top right corner and select Add Automation. Choose from categories such as A Time of Day Occurs, When I Arrive, or An Accessory is Controlled to initiate your logic flow.
  3. Set specific trigger conditions. Define the exact parameters for your chosen trigger. If selecting a time-based event, specify the hour and repeat intervals for selected days of the week.
  4. Choose target accessories. Select the devices or scenes you want to activate. Tap Next to see a list of your connected smart hardware, then toggle the devices you wish to include in this routine.
  5. Fine-tune accessory states. Tap and hold on an accessory within the routine configuration to adjust specific settings, such as brightness, color temperature, or power status. Configure these individually to create a custom scene state.
  6. Test and save the routine. Tap Test This Automation to verify the behavior of your devices in real-time. Once the sequence executes correctly, tap Done to commit the routine to your Home configuration.
