How to Review and Manage Mac App Permissions
Learn how to audit and adjust privacy settings for your Mac applications. Manage camera, microphone, and data access through System Settings.
- Open System Settings. Click the Apple Menu in the top-left corner of your screen. Select System Settings from the dropdown list to open the primary management interface.
- Select Privacy & Security. In the sidebar of System Settings, scroll down until you locate Privacy & Security. Click the icon to reveal the specific permission categories.
- Review individual categories. Scroll through the list of categories such as Camera, Microphone, Location Services, and Files and Folders. Click on each item to see a list of every application currently requesting that specific permission.
- Toggle application access. To revoke access for a specific application, click the toggle switch next to its name. If you are modifying sensitive system permissions, you will be prompted to enter your Mac password or use Touch ID to confirm the change.
- Manage Full Disk Access. For high-security settings like Full Disk Access or Accessibility, review the list carefully. Remove any applications that no longer require extensive system-wide permissions by selecting them and clicking the minus (-) button.
