How to Change Your Mac's Name for AirDrop and Network Sharing

  1. Open System Settings. Click the Apple menu icon in the top-left corner of your screen. Select System Settings from the dropdown menu to launch the configuration panel.
  2. Access General settings. In the sidebar of the System Settings window, click the General tab. This contains your device identification and system information.
  3. Open the About menu. Locate and click the About button at the top of the General pane. This section displays your hardware details and the current computer name.
  4. Edit your computer name. Click the text field next to Name. Delete the existing entry and type your desired name for the Mac, ensuring it is recognizable for AirDrop recipients.
  5. Confirm the changes. Press the Enter key or click outside the text field to save the new name. The update takes effect immediately for all network services.
