How to Find a Lost Mac with Find My

Locate, lock, or erase your missing Mac using the Find My network. Follow these steps to secure your device remotely via iCloud.

  1. Sign in to iCloud. Navigate to icloud.com/find from any web browser on a smartphone, tablet, or secondary computer. Enter your Apple ID and password to access the device locator interface.
  2. Identify your Mac. Click on the All Devices dropdown menu located at the top of the screen. Select your missing Mac from the list to display its current location on the map.
  3. Enable Lost Mode. Click the Mark As Lost button in the device control panel. Follow the prompts to create a numeric passcode if your Mac does not currently have one set.
  4. Display contact information. Enter a custom message and a phone number on the Lost Mode screen. This information will appear directly on your Mac's screen, allowing the finder to contact you without accessing your system.
  5. Erase the device. If you determine the Mac cannot be recovered, select Erase This Device. Confirm the action to remotely wipe all data, including personal files and stored payment information.
