How to Manage Sharing Settings on macOS
Secure your network and manage file, screen, and printer sharing on your Mac with this step-by-step configuration guide.
- Open System Settings. Click the Apple menu in the top-left corner of your screen. Select System Settings from the dropdown menu to open the control panel.
- Locate the Sharing menu. Scroll down the left-hand sidebar in the System Settings window. Select General, then click on the Sharing sub-menu to view all network services.
- Toggle individual services. Review the list of services such as File Sharing, Screen Sharing, and Remote Login. Click the toggle switch next to any service to enable or disable it immediately.
- Adjust service permissions. Click the info (i) button next to a specific service to modify advanced settings. Define which users or groups have read-write access to specific folders or shared drives.
- Confirm the Computer Name. Select the General category in the sidebar, then click About. Ensure the Local Hostname matches your intended identification for network discovery.
