How to change your default web browser on macOS
Learn how to change the default web browser on your Mac to Safari, Chrome, Firefox, or any other installed browser in a few simple steps.
- Open System Settings. Click the Apple menu icon in the top-left corner of your screen. Select System Settings from the dropdown menu to launch the configuration panel.
- Locate Desktop & Dock settings. In the left-hand sidebar of the System Settings window, scroll down until you reach the Desktop & Dock section. Click this item to view its associated preferences.
- Select your default browser. Scroll down through the right-hand panel until you reach the Default web browser dropdown menu. Click the currently displayed browser name to reveal a list of all compatible browsers installed on your Mac.
- Confirm the selection. Select your desired browser from the list. The change takes effect immediately, ensuring all future web links opened from applications will route through your chosen browser.
