How to add the Input menu to the macOS menu bar

Enable quick switching between keyboard layouts and input sources by adding the Input menu to your Mac menu bar in System Settings.

  1. Open System Settings. Click the Apple menu in the top-left corner of your screen. Select System Settings from the dropdown menu.
  2. Access Keyboard settings. Scroll down the sidebar on the left and click on Keyboard. This pane contains all settings related to text input and keyboard behavior.
  3. Open Input Sources settings. Locate the Input Sources section. Click the Edit button to view your active keyboard layouts and languages.
  4. Enable the menu bar display. Toggle the switch labeled Show Input menu in menu bar to the On position. Once activated, the icon will appear immediately in your top menu bar.
  5. Switch between inputs. Click the new icon in your menu bar to view your enabled languages. Select an item from the list to change your active keyboard layout instantly.
